VTA Celebrates contribution of Women in Transport

VTA CEO Peter Anderson praised the contribution women have made in the transport industry on International Women’s Day yesterday

The Victorian Transport Association (VTA) says it wishes to acknowledge International Women’s Day and raise awareness on the need to build gender equality in our world.

It says the transport industry is proud to be able to support the elimination of bias, stereotypes and discrimination.

The VTA says it has taken positive steps to attract and retain women to the transport industry, evidenced by the significant results from its Women in Transport Program being delivered in partnership with the Victorian Department of Transport and Planning.

More than half of participants to date are women and women over 45, with more than 60 women trained and placed with transport companies and having the capabilities and confidence to start their long term careers in the industry.

The VTA’s Annual Women’s Lunch on Friday, April 14 at Showtime Events Centre will feature several inspiring speakers including Australian Olympian and Rio Olympics Chef de Mission Kitty Chiller.

The VTA says the lunch is a great opportunity to reflect on how the industry can better support women in transport.

VTA CEO Peter Anderson asks the industry to please consider sending staff from your operation to hear from a very informative line up of speakers.

The VTA will soon open registrations for this important event.

The VTA says yesterday’s International Women’s Day is a day to celebrate the ongoing achievements of inclusion, awareness and the advancement of women.

Anderson says the industry will continue to drive positive outcomes to meet the challenge of empowering women in communities to achieve equality, parity and improving women’s rights.
