WaterNSW chair steps down
Anne McDonald was first appointed chair of the WaterNSW board in March 2016 before being reappointed with unanimous backing in 2019.
During her tenure, McDonald led the organisation through historic events including a record drought, the Black Summer bushfires, a one-in-twenty-year rain event in metropolitan catchments in 2019-20, and through the effects of COVID-19.
Major WaterNSW achievements under her leadership include the construction of the Broken Hill pipeline, which was delivered on time and under budget.
She also made real-time water information available to rural customers and launched WaterNSW’s Safety Commitments initiative.
Most recently, McDonald led the company through the development and adoption of a new corporate strategy, with the appointment of a new chief executive officer (CEO) and significant water sector reforms.
Recruitment for a new chair is underway; however, Kaye Dalton has been appointed interim chair while WaterNSW elects a suitable candidate.
Dalton has over 30 years of experience working in the natural resources and water sectors and is a former non-executive director of Murrumbidgee Irrigation.
WaterNSW will provide another update once a permanent chair has been selected.
